Description

City Convene is a national conference for teams of leaders in city transformation. This is a GoodCities leadership development conference where you will:

  • Build relationships with leaders of other city transformation networks
  • Learn from Glenn Barth and other city leaders
  • Gain exposure to best practices from other city movements
  • Energize your city team as you are equipped with key skills and tools

These sessions will be facilitated by Rev. Dr. Glenn Barth, the President of GoodCities and a team of leaders from around the nation.

Glenn Barth is the author of The Good City: Transformed Lives Transforming Communities, in which he unpacks deep, practical insights that city leaders are using to ground their movements biblically and spiritually. City Convene speakers include Kevin Palau about the recent unifying effect of New York City Fest and his work in Portland; Rev. Richard Coleman of Minneapolis on “Helping people move from Public Assistance into Good Jobs;” Jeff Martin on “Church and Public School Partnerships;” Rev. David Beidel of Staten Island on "Building a Citywide Prayer Movement;” Eric Swanson of Leadership Network on “City Transformation as a Platform;” and from me on "Current Realities and Future Trends in City Transformation.”

These veteran leaders, each with his or her unique journey and grid, represent a diversity of approaches aimed at developing strong cross-sector partnerships that lead to collective citywide kingdom impact. This gathering is a cutting-edge learning community designed to enhance your on-going contribution to the social and spiritual transformation of your city.

Please join us in Cincinnati on September 21 and 22 at Christ's Church at Mason.

Hotel Recommendations from Laura Jackson of At Work on Purpose, Cincinnati.

My first recommendation would be Best Western Mason Inn, 9665 S. Mason Montgomery Road, Mason, OH 45040, based on location and price. Travelocity is offering a rate of $62 per night, although availability is limited. I have heard that others attending the conference are staying here, so that is a plus. The hotel is not a luxury property, but it is a good value. And it is located just down the street from the conference location. Complimentary Breakfast is included in the rate.

For upgraded options, there are two limited service hotels down the street from the Best Western that also offer breakfast with their rate:

Hyatt Place Cincinnati Northeast; 5070 Natorp Blvd, Mason OH @ $169 one night (September 21); $129 if check in is on Sunday.

Holiday Inn Express Cincinnati Mason; 5100 Natorp Blvd, Mason, OH @ $137 for one night (September 21); $128 if check in is on Sunday

Another option in the same area is LaQuinta Inn & Suites Cincinnati NE; 9918 Escort Drive, Mason, OH @ $95 for Monday the 21st, $75 for 2 nights checking in on Sunday. The rate is good, but the hotel is not of the quality of the others. Complimentary Breakfast

There is also a full service Marriott (Marriott Northeast) - no breakfast included - at 9664 Mason Montgomery Road, Mason OH. Rates for two nights checking in on Sunday are $129.00. Monday check-in is $139.00. This is the most upscale hotel in the area.

A short drive away: Hampton Inn Cincinnati Kings Island @$101. It is sold out on Sunday but showed some rooms on Monday.

Comfort Suites Kings Island on Kings Island Center Drive @ $80.00

Wingate by Wyndham Cincinnati West Chester @ $102.

All of the prices and availability are subject to change. I listed what I saw today as a frame of reference. This is a busy leisure and business area, so I only included a few in each category. If someone finds a different hotel and has a question about it, please have them contact me: Laura Jackson of At Work on Purpose ljackson@skillsource.com.
